Police Dog Rocket Sniffs Out Suspect in Knoll Avenue Bike Theft

Rocket, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois, joined Nottinghamshire Police in June and quickly proved his expert tracking skills during training. His talent was put to the ultimate test in the early hours of Sunday when a motorbike was stolen from a garage in Hucknall.

Called to the scene, Rocket picked up the scent and led his handler straight to a garden on Watnall Road. There, they found a suspect hiding in a bush.

Rocket Strikes Again in Basford, Helping Catch Two More Suspects

Rocket’s detective work didn’t stop there. On Friday afternoon, after a vehicle was stopped on Stockhill Lane, Basford, a suspect bolted. Rocket tracked him to a wooded area near Nottingham College, where officers detained a man.

Two men, aged 35 and 30, were arrested and later released on bail. Police recovered a large haul of cash from the car.

Police Praise Rocket’s Skills and Vital Role

“This was a great bit of work by Police Dog Rocket and his handler that allowed us to bring into custody two suspects who may otherwise have evaded police,” said Superintendent Louise Clarke.

“Police dogs are an invaluable part of the team and regularly help us find suspects and evidence we couldn’t have found without them. Rocket has made a brilliant start to his career and will only get better.”

Nottinghamshire Police employs a mix of general-purpose dogs like Rocket, alongside specialist sniffer dogs trained to detect drugs, cash, firearms, and other evidence.
