Serial Abuser’s Savage Rampage
Byron Garland, 26, launched a terrifying assault on his partner in their Auchterarder home. He battered her with a plant pot, strangled her, dragged her by the hair across the floor, and kicked her repeatedly. During the horrific attack, he sneered, “Every woman claims domestic abuse and it isn’t true.”
Threats of Murder and Relentless Violence
At Perth Sheriff Court, it was revealed that Garland, who already has two domestic abuse convictions, threatened to kill his girlfriend, telling her, “You’re never going to leave here alive.” Whenever she tried to escape, he brutally dragged her back for more violence. The assault left the victim fearing for her life throughout their 20-month relationship.
Chilling Details of the Attack
- The woman returned home to find Garland drunk on the sofa, vodka bottles strewn around.
- After visiting a friend and fearing he might hurt her, Garland summoned her back.
- He angrily accused her of calling the police before hitting her twice with a plant pot.
- He continued to punch her and then strangled her, dragging her over a coffee table and slamming her head against it multiple times.
- She briefly escaped to the sofa, only for Garland to drag her out and bash her head against a window.
- In a chilling moment, he shouted, “Every woman claims domestic abuse and it isn’t true. And every man like me gets in trouble for it.”
- The victim attempted to flee, but Garland caught her, choked and kicked her in the hallway and communal areas before she managed to escape.
Aftermath and Court Proceedings
The victim escaped to a friend’s house, who noticed fresh injuries and called the police. Garland was arrested that night and remains in custody. He pleaded guilty to assault causing injury and danger to her life. Sheriff Paul Brown deferred sentencing pending background reports. Defence lawyer Duncan McPhie offered no bail application, meaning Garland will stay behind bars until the next court hearing.
