Terence McBrien, 72, an osteopath and masseur from Alnwick, Northumberland, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court to deny 55 sexual offences involving 14 female clients.
Long List of Serious Charges
It took over 16 minutes for the court clerk to read all charges, which include:
- One count of attempted rape
- Seven counts of sexual assault by penetration
- Thirty-four counts of sexual assault by touching
- Thirteen counts of voyeurism
The offences allegedly took place between 2011 and 2021 while McBrien treated women as a masseur or osteopath. The accused pleaded “not guilty” to every charge in a clear voice.
Trial Set for 2027
Judge Edward Bindloss announced the trial will begin on April 19, 2027, and is expected to last up to four months. McBrien was granted conditional bail but must attend two pre-trial hearings in July and March.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Detective Sergeant Michael Rainbow, leading the Northumbria Police investigation, said:
“Following a complex and lengthy investigation, an individual has now been charged with attempted rape and more than 50 other serious sexual offences. We recognise the nature and number of the charges may raise concern and anxiety within our communities.” “We encourage anyone with information relevant to this case to come forward. We also remind people to avoid speculation online or in communities that could affect the trial.”
