Knife Threat Horror: Paul Green Sentenced After Terrorising Wife
Somerton Man Pleads Guilty to Shocking Attack
Paul Green, from Pearmain Road, Somerton, admitted causing actual bodily harm at Taunton Crown Court on Thursday, December 15. The chilling attack happened on the evening of May 25, following a heated argument with his wife.
Knife Threat and Pillow Attack
After their argument, Green’s wife went to bed. But Green woke her, threatened her with a knife, and covered her face with a pillow in a terrifying assault. He then stormed out of the house, only to return shouting outside before fleeing again when police arrived.
Victim’s Harrowing Statement Revealed
Green’s wife told the court: “I constantly relive in my head the fact that things could have been very different within a split second. There could have been one slip of the knife, or Paul could have held that pillow for an extra minute and I could have been dead. “This is an enormous thing that I cannot get out of my head – the consequences could have been that my child would be parentless. “I feel guilt and shame as to why I let things get so bad. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but when I was living my life in the way I was, and experiencing what I did daily, I wrongly assumed that was just life and it was just normal to deal with. “I painted a brave face in front of people, when in fact things were far from normal, far from healthy.”
Justice Served with Jail Time and Protection Order
Green was charged the next day and remanded into custody. He now faces a custodial sentence along with a five-year prevention from harassment order.
Detective Inspector Louise Savage praised the victim’s courage: “I commend the incredible bravery and strength it took the victim to come forward after suffering at the hands of her spouse for so long. We are very pleased to have secured justice after this frightening incident.”
“Green terrorised his wife and thought he was untouchable. But her courage has put a dangerous man behind bars. We hope this sentence helps her feel safe and at ease.”
