The Man Who Murdered 52-year-old Darren Kirk And Attempted To Kill Another Man Has Today Been Jailed For Life And Will Serve A Minimum Of 35 Years In Prison

Brutal Double Knife Attack Rocks Spalding Street

Wayne Rule, 46, stabbed Darren Kirk to death in a shocking December 2021 attack at their Cygnet Court homes in Spalding. Lincoln Crown Court heard how Rule burst into Darren’s flat, forced him and his partner into the kitchen, then pulled a knife and repeatedly plunged it into Darren’s chest and back.

Chilling Details of the Deadly Assault

Minutes before killing Darren, Rule had viciously stabbed another man 12 times just over half a mile away. Police found bloodstained knives at both crime scenes, linking the bloody rampage. After murdering Darren, Rule locked himself inside his flat, threatening to “start shooting” and triggered a tense six-hour police standoff.

When he finally surrendered, Rule chillingly asked officers, “Which one is dead?” The grisly violence reportedly stemmed from a drug-related dispute.

Daughter’s Heartbreaking Statement: ‘Life on Hold’

“I have been waiting for answers and it has consumed everything,” said Darren’s daughter, Alana Kirk. “Nothing can ever bring back my Dad or the relationship we had. We had reconnected in the year before his death, but now I will never get to strengthen that bond further.”

Alana added, “I want Wayne Rule to understand the ruin his actions brought—not just to my Dad, but to us all. Being a criminal and taking drugs only leads to destruction.”

Justice Served: Life Behind Bars for Murderer

Rule pleaded guilty to Darren’s murder and the attempted murder of the other victim. On 17 March, he was handed life with a 35-year minimum tariff for Darren’s killing. He also received a concurrent 14-year term for the attempted murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy McWatt of Lincolnshire Police led the investigation. He said: “These were premeditated attacks. It is sheer luck the first victim survived. Darren’s death is a devastating loss to his family. This sentence reflects the seriousness of these crimes. Rule will not be back in our communities anytime soon.”
