Kent Water Crisis: Thousands Left High and Dry After Major Flood Damage
Thousands of homes across Kent have been plunged into a water blackout after critical gear at a treatment plant was wrecked by flooding. The chaos hit Kings Hill, Wateringbury, Yalding, West Kingsdown, Borough Green, Hadlow, and Five Oak Green. Residents face no water or a trickle at best.
Flooding from Burst Pipe Sparks Major Incident
South East Water revealed a burst pipe flooded their water treatment works, causing “significant equipment damage.” Teams battled through the night attempting repairs – but with the scale of destruction, there’s no clear timeline for when water will flow normally again.
“Our teams worked throughout the night repairing equipment which has been significantly damaged by flooding following a burst pipe at one of our water treatment works,” said South East Water. “We’re sorry to anyone in and around Kings Hill, Wateringbury, Yalding, West Kingsdown, Borough Green, Hadlow and Five Oak Green who may be experiencing no water or low pressure because of this.”
Emergency Measures in Place, Help for Vulnerable Residents
- Water tankers deployed to top up storage tanks for limited supply
- Bottled water station opened at Kings Hill Asda from 9am, with more sites coming
- Direct bottled water deliveries to vulnerable locals registered on Priority Services Register
South East Water apologised for the disruption and promises to fix the issue as fast as possible. For now, residents in affected Kent areas must brace themselves for more dry taps.
