No New Suspects After Crawley College Gun Scare
Sussex Police have crushed social media rumours – they are NOT hunting for another suspect after a gun incident rocked Crawley College on Monday afternoon.
Swift Police Action and Arrest
Officers rushed to College Road just after 3.10pm following multiple reports of gunshots fired. Within 10 minutes, an 18-year-old Crawley man was arrested at the scene. Police seized a firearm and a knife.
Two staff members suffered minor injuries, but crucially, these were not gunshot wounds. The force confirmed the incident is not being treated as terrorism.
Lockdown, Search, and Ongoing Investigation
- Students and staff were evacuated to safety.
- Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams searched the buildings; nothing suspicious was found.
- Nearby streets closed during the incident have now re-opened.
- A related property in Barton Walk was also searched.
Crawley College will remain closed on Tuesday as police continue their enquiries.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
“Two staff members suffered minor injuries and attended a walk-in centre. Thanks to those who helped detain the suspect before police arrived,” said Chief Superintendent Howard Hodges. “We continue to have a strong police presence and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
