Man Charged After Shocking ‘Fire Attacks’ on Elderly Men
Mohammed Abbkr, 28, from Edgbaston, Birmingham, has been hit with two counts of attempted murder. He allegedly sprayed a flammable substance on victims before setting them on fire.
Terrifying Attacks Spark Outrage
The first victim, 82-year-old Hashi Odowa, was doused in a mosque in Ealing, West London, on February 27. He suffered severe burns to his face and arms and was rushed to hospital. Members of the mosque slammed the attack as “abhorrent and malicious.”
Just days later, Mohammed Rayaz, 70, was targeted near his home in Edgbaston. His jacket was set alight after being sprayed with a substance; he remains in serious but stable condition after surgery.
Community and Police Rally in Response
Shocked Brits have condemned the attacks. The Muslim community feels especially threatened. A West London Islamic Centre spokesperson said: “As we begin the blessed month of Ramadan, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
Police urge anyone with CCTV or footage to come forward. Officers from the West Midlands and Metropolitan Police are working together to crack the case.
Next Court Date Set
Abbkr appeared in court and remains in custody. His next hearing is scheduled for April 20.
