MP Peter Bone Faces Suspension Over Bullying and Sexual Misconduct Claims

MP Peter Bone is hours away from a crucial vote in Parliament that could see him suspended for six weeks. The Wellingborough Tory faces damning accusations of bullying and sexual misconduct uncovered by Parliament’s Independent Expert Panel (IEP). If suspended, Bone could trigger a recall petition – risking a by-election in his seat.

Serious Allegations Uncovered by Independent Panel

The IEP report reveals Bone “committed many varied acts of bullying and one act of sexual misconduct” against a staff member between 2012 and 2013. Accusations include verbal abuse, physical intimidation, forcing unwanted rituals, and isolating the complainant. One allegation even involves indecent exposure on a trip to Madrid.

Five separate claims were made by a staffer in October 2021. A formal complaint to then-PM Theresa May in 2017 was left unresolved. The report paints a grim picture of Bone’s conduct towards his employee, with bullying and harassment repeated over months.

Bone Denies Claims, Refuses to Back Down

Despite losing the Tory whip, Peter Bone fiercely denies all allegations. “None of the misconduct allegations against me ever took place. They are false and untrue claims. They are without foundation,” he insisted. Bone slammed the rules restricting him from publicly addressing the evidence, calling them “frustrating.”

The MP is now consulting lawyers over possible legal action. Regardless, he vows to keep serving his constituents.

Political Fallout Looms Ahead

The vote could leave the Conservative Party in turmoil as they fight to hold a seat Bone has occupied since 2005. A six-week suspension would almost certainly trigger a recall petition – a political headache for Boris Johnson’s government.

The decision will be watched closely, with potential ripple effects beyond Wellingborough. The scandal underscores ongoing concerns about behaviour in Westminster and the consequences for MPs facing serious misconduct allegations.
