Last night, on Wednesday, November 8, five suspected firearms were found on East Prescot Road in Liverpool. Officers on patrol made the discovery at approximately 20.00 GMT at the junction of East Prescot Road and Somerford Road. The weapons, which included self-loading pistols and ammunition, were found inside a rucksack.
Following the discovery, the firearms were seized by the police and are currently undergoing examination by specialist officers to determine their viability. As a result, a police cordon has been set up in the area, and crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul McVeigh emphasised the importance of this discovery in sending a strong message that the possession of dangerous weapons will not be tolerated in Merseyside. He stated, “We hope that the discovery of these firearms in our community reiterates that the possession of dangerous weapons in our communities will not be tolerated in Merseyside.” McVeigh also highlighted the commitment of the police force in responding promptly to incidents involving guns and dangerous weapons to ensure the safety of the community.
An investigation is currently underway on East Prescot Road, and the police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector McVeigh said, “If you have any further information about this incident, who they may belong to, or weapons being stored in your community, please contact us.” He also reassured the local residents that the police are actively working to identify those responsible for storing these weapons.
