Knife-Wielding Man Arrested After Essex Police Officers Attacked in Harlow
A man has been arrested following a violent incident in Harlow, where an Essex Police officer was injured while confronting a knife-wielding suspect.
Officers Called After Welfare Concern in Hull Grove
Police were called to Hull Grove just after 5.45pm over concerns for a man’s welfare. On arrival, officers found the man threatening them with a knife.
During the tense stand-off, a female officer suffered a head wound. Thankfully, her injury is not life-threatening or life-changing. She was rushed to hospital, treated, and has now been discharged.
Second Female Officer Assaulted
Another female officer was also attacked during the incident but did not require hospital treatment. Both officers are receiving strong support from colleagues and senior officers to help with their recovery.
Suspect in Custody, Hospitalised
The man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and taken to hospital for treatment.
Chief Superintendent Stuart Hooper, Essex Police Gold Commander, said: “Sustaining a serious injury whilst on duty is never, ever, ‘just part of the job’ of a police officer.
“This officer attended an incident, as hundreds of officers across Essex do each and every day, and was faced with the threat of serious violence. While most would back away, she and her colleague stepped forward to handle the threat and protect the public.
“Thankfully, she was quickly taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
“This incident will deeply affect the officer, her loved ones, and all those who work alongside her. It also impacts thousands of officers across our force who continue to face danger daily.
“Essex Police is a family force. We pull together to support each other and will continue to do so in the coming days and weeks.”
