In a tragic turn of events, a man has admitted to the murder of his young wife in Croydon. Sahil Sharma, aged 24, of Ash Tree Way, Croydon, appeared in custody at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday, February 8, where he pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife, 19-year-old Mehak Sharma.
Detective Inspector Laura Semple, of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command, expressed the devastation caused by Sahil Sharma’s actions, stating, “Sahil Sharma’s actions have devastated a family. In killing his wife he has robbed her family of a loving daughter for reasons known only to himself.
While the guilty plea may spare Mehak Sharma’s loved ones the ordeal of a trial, DI Semple acknowledged that nothing could alleviate the profound loss they have suffered. The sentencing for Sahil Sharma is scheduled to take place at the same court on Friday, April 26.
The harrowing incident unfolded shortly after 16:15hrs on October 29, 2023, when Sahil Sharma dialled 999 to report that he had killed his wife at their residence on Ash Tree Way. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Mrs Sharma unresponsive, having sustained catastrophic knife injuries to her neck. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she was tragically pronounced dead approximately 20 minutes later.
Mehak’s family was promptly notified of the devastating news and continues to receive support from specialist officers during this trying time. A special post-mortem examination conducted on October 31, 2023, determined the cause of Mehak’s death to be a stab wound to the neck.
DI Semple emphasized the significance of the tragedy, stating, “Mehak was killed in her own home, the place where she should have been safest, by the person who should have loved and protected her. My thoughts today are with her family and loved ones.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the need for swift intervention to protect vulnerable individuals.
