Tragic Stabbing Shakes Ipswich: Courtney Mitchell, 26, Fatally Attacked

Courtney Mitchell, a 26-year-old mother of three, has been tragically stabbed to death in Ipswich. Friends describe her as “the brightest light of any room.” Her sudden death on Wednesday evening has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting heartfelt tributes and sorrow.

Grisly Scene on Burrell Road

Courtney was found with serious stab wounds around 7:10 PM on Burrell Road. Despite rushed treatment, she sadly died from her injuries shortly after. She leaves behind three young children aged eight, four, and two.

A 27-year-old man is in custody, arrested on suspicion of her murder, and is being questioned by police at Martlesham. Officers recovered two knives near the scene, now undergoing forensic testing.

Community Rallies Around Family

In response to the tragedy, Brandon Black, who claims to be the father of one of Courtney’s sons, launched a GoFundMe appeal aiming to raise £7,000 for funeral costs. Nearly £3,000 has already been donated. Brandon wrote, “She was a mother to 3 before a horrible human took her life. I just want her to have the best send-off for her and the family, and to support our children. I love you, Courtney Jaye Mitchell.”

Tributes flood social media, with friends calling Courtney a “precious soul” who was “too good for this world.” One grieving friend urged, “Please find it in your hearts to give a donation. She didn’t deserve her ending, and her family didn’t either.”

Police Hunt Continues as Ipswich Mourns

Police cordoned off the crime scene, including a nearby skate park and river paths, while a National Police Air Service helicopter searched the skies for hours. Ipswich Labour MP Jack Abbott appealed for witnesses: “My thoughts are with the young woman, her loved ones, and our wider Ipswich community. The police are working tirelessly to bring the culprit to justice.”

Local councillor Phil Smart added, “This is a truly horrific incident. Our thoughts go out to the victim and family. The council is assisting police with CCTV reviews to find those responsible.”

Suffolk Police Superintendent Andy Martin confirmed the victim and suspect were known to each other and promised increased police patrols. He urged anyone with information—or dashcam and CCTV footage from the area between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM—to come forward.

If you have information, contact Suffolk Police quoting CAD 330 of 6 August 2024, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
