Two Charged with Murder After Man Found Dead in South Tyneside
Police have charged two men with murder following the discovery of a 54-year-old man’s body in South Tyneside.
Man Found Dead with Assault Injuries
Officers were called to a grassy area off Shipcote Lane at around 6:10am on Sunday. There, they found Neil Selkirk, 54, with injuries consistent with an assault. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspects Arrested and Charged
A murder investigation was swiftly launched. Two suspects, aged 39 and 33, were arrested nearby and have now been charged with Mr Selkirk’s murder. Both are due to appear before South Tyneside magistrates today.
Police Appeal for Information
A police spokesperson said: “From the outset, Neil has been at the forefront of our minds, and we’ve been absolutely committed to ensuring those responsible for his death are brought to justice. Our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this awful time.”
The spokesperson also thanked the local community for their cooperation and urged respect for the ongoing legal process.
Police have maintained a strong presence at the scene as investigations continue and have called on anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case.
