Asylum Seeker Stabs Hotel Worker to Death in Walsall
Tragedy at Bescot Station
A 27-year-old hotel worker has died after being brutally attacked with a screwdriver by an asylum seeker. Rhiannon Skye Whyte was stabbed in the neck at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium train station late on Sunday night, shortly after finishing her shift at a nearby asylum seeker hotel.
Rhiannon was rushed to hospital and placed on life support but sadly passed away three days later, surrounded by her devastated family. They described her as “selfless” and “always there for anyone who needed it.”
Suspect Arrested After ‘Biscuit Dispute’
Police arrested 18-year-old Deng Chol Majeck soon after the stabbing. Authorities believe a petty argument over a packet of biscuits earlier at the Park Inn by Radisson, the hotel housing asylum seekers where Rhiannon worked, may have triggered the attack.
Deng arrived in the UK in July after crossing the Channel in a small boat without documents. He applied for asylum and was placed at the hotel near Walsall FC’s stadium.
Security Clampdown & Ongoing Investigation
Following the attack, all residents have been moved out of the hotel as a precaution. A police spokesperson said, “We are taking no chances.” The hotel had already been targeted in riots over the summer.
Deng Chol Majeck appeared at Walsall Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody. He faces a murder charge and awaits further court hearings.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Officers are urging anyone who was near Bescot Station around 11pm on Sunday to come forward with information. The victim was found unconscious at the station by a passerby, and police continue their investigation into this shocking attack.
“There is not enough paper in the world to even begin to write a tribute for you. We will love and miss you forever.” – Rhiannon’s family
