Two former teachers from Newlands School in Seaford have been charged with shocking historic child sex offences. The allegations cover abuse dating back to the 1970s through to the 1990s. Police launched separate investigations following reports from ex-students at the prep and sixth-form school.
David Clarke Faces 41 Counts Including Buggery and Indecent Assault
David Clarke, 81, of Brancaster Staithe in Norfolk, taught religious education at Newlands Preparatory School from 1978 to 1989. He’s charged with 41 offences involving 12 victims. Charges include 17 counts of indecent assault on boys under 16, seven counts of inciting gross indecency, and buggery. Clarke has been remanded in custody.
George Haynes Charged with 29 Sex Offences Against Boys
George Haynes, 73, from Redmile, Leicestershire, taught English and drama at Newlands Manor School from 1986 to 1992. He faces 29 charges linked to 11 victims. These include multiple counts of indecent assault and buggery involving boys under 16 and males over 16. Haynes is also remanded in custody.
Upcoming Court Date and Ongoing Police Appeal
Both men will appear separately at Lewes Crown Court on Monday, February 24. Sussex Police are continuing their historical abuse probe and urge anyone with information or who may be a victim to come forward. Authorities insist justice must be served, no matter how long ago the crimes occurred.
