Teen Jailed for Fatal Stabbing of Richard Dentith in Manchester

Richard Dentith, 31, was found unconscious on Grimesthorpe Road at around 2:50am on Thursday 7 April 2022. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Single Stab Wound Ends Life

A post-mortem revealed Richard died from a single stab wound. Police launched a massive investigation involving detailed CCTV analysis, forensic work, and multiple suspect interviews. Footage showed a 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, chasing and attacking Richard near a mosque before fleeing the scene.

Family Mourns Loss & Praises Police

“Our thanks go to South Yorkshire Police and their forensic team for their diligent and thorough investigation in the lead-up to this trial. We also thank the legal team for their comprehensive prosecution,” said Richard’s family.

“Ricky had many obstacles, but he was first and foremost a much-loved son, brother, and father. His three loves were his young son, sport, and cooking. He was a hard-working, caring dad and a skilled sportsman and chef.”

“This senseless attack has left a huge void. His son will grow up without his father’s support. While today’s verdict brings some relief, it will never bring Ricky back.”

“This loss is a tragic reflection of the knife crime epidemic sweeping UK streets.”

Justice Served at Sheffield Crown Court

The 17-year-old was found guilty of murder today at Sheffield Crown Court and is due to be sentenced on Monday.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgibbons said: “This horrific attack highlights the devastating impact of knife crime. One stab has shattered a family’s lives and robbed society of a young man full of potential.

“Our detectives worked tirelessly to bring the killer to justice. The defendant showed no remorse, lying and shifting blame onto Richard, claiming he was the aggressor.”

“Our thoughts remain with Richard’s grieving family, who endured a 10-day trial after the teenager pleaded not guilty.”
