Serious Crash Shuts M2 Between Sittingbourne and Faversham
Kent’s M2 motorway is in chaos after a serious single-vehicle crash this evening (February 16, 2025). The stretch between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and Junction 6 (Faversham) remains shut as emergency services scramble to manage the scene and investigations ramp up.
Firefighters Race to Rescue Trapped Driver
At 4:47 PM, Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called to the coastbound carriageway following reports of a collision. Three fire engines sped to the scene, armed with specialist rescue gear. Crews battled to free a trapped driver using hydraulic spreaders, cutting tools, and rams.
The injured motorist was swiftly handed over to the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) paramedics and the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) team. This elite air ambulance crew, including doctors and advanced paramedics, is now overseeing critical care.
Multi-Agency Effort and Road Closure
Kent Fire, Police, SECAmb, and the HEMS medics teamed up to manage the incident site. Despite their efforts, the M2 remains closed in both directions as accident investigation officers comb the scene for clues. Diversions are in place, but traffic delays are severe. Drivers are urged to avoid the area altogether.
Police Hunt Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Kent Police are appealing for any witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage of the crash to step forward. “Any information could be vital to our inquiry,” a spokesperson said.
Those with tips or videos should call Kent Police on 101 quoting the incident reference, or submit dashcam clips via the Kent Police website.
