A violent assault on a busy Devizes street last summer has seen Kubilay Bostanli, 27, locked up under a hospital order after being convicted of attempted murder and assaulting a police officer.
Attack Caught on Busy Streets
The sickening attack unfolded at 12:30pm on 29 June 2024. Bostanli launched a savage assault on a man in his 20s, starting inside a local butcher’s shop on Sidmouth Street before chasing him onto Estcourt Street. The victim suffered two stab wounds to the neck plus serious facial and ear injuries.
When police arrived, Bostanli lashed out again, grabbing a female officer by the hair during the struggle to arrest him.
Heroic Bystanders and Brave Police Save Victim
Thanks to the quick thinking of three passers-by who administered first aid and rapid hospital treatment, the victim survived the brutal attack.
“This was a sustained and terrifying attack during which the victim fought for his life. Kubilay Bostanli used extreme violence against his victim, witnessed by a large number of people given the time of day and location. I’d like to thank the victim for his bravery and the members of the public who helped save his life.”– Detective Constable Jo Newbery, CID
PC Crabbe, the responding officer who faced Bostanli’s violent resistance, earned a bravery commendation from the former High Sheriff and has been nominated for a Police Bravery Award. Chief Superintendent Guy Elkins praised her courage:
