Gatwick Airport hit by refuelling staff strike today, sparking fears of flight chaos during a crucial travel period.
Fuel Staff Walk Out in Pay Dispute
A strike by refuelling workers at Gatwick Airport launched on Thursday, May 16. The dispute, led by Unite the Union, involves staff employed by Redline Oil Services and will run until Tuesday, May 20.
The industrial action threatens to disrupt flights for major airlines, especially easyJet, a key Redline client, along with Air India and Uganda Airlines, Unite warned.
May Half-Term Travel Faces Turmoil
More strikes are set between May 23 and May 27, clashing with the busy May half-term school holiday. This period is critical for UK travel and could see widespread delays.
A Gatwick Airport spokesperson said: “We are 123 an improved offer. Unite has suspended strike action to allow members to be balloted on the proposals.”
Red Handling services airlines including Norse, Norwegian, TAP, Delta, and Saudia.
