M4 Crash Shuts Eastbound Near Newbury

A serious crash has shut the M4 eastbound between Junction 13 (Chieveley Interchange – Newbury) and Junction 12 (Theale Interchange – Reading West). Emergency crews remain at the scene.

Delays and Diversions in Place

Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance, Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue, and National Highways Traffic Officers are handling the incident. The road closure is expected to last hours as investigators carry out a detailed examination.

Drivers are warned to avoid the area or brace for major delays. A signed diversion with the Hollow Circle symbol has been set up:

  • Exit M4 at J13 and head south on the A34 towards Newbury.
  • At the A34/A339 interchange, follow the A339 for 2.5 miles to Newbury.
  • At the A339/A4 roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A4.
  • Follow the A4 for 12.5 miles, then take the 3rd exit at the roundabout to rejoin the M4 eastbound.
