Lewes Crown Court is throwing open its historic doors to the public this September for a special Open Day aimed at demystifying the workings of the criminal justice system.
The event will take place on Saturday, 13 September 2025, from 10am to 2:30pm, with final entry permitted up to 2:10pm. Entry is free of charge, and people of all ages are welcome to attend.
Located on the High Street in Lewes, East Sussex, the Crown Court building has long been a centrepiece of the town’s legal and architectural heritage. This Open Day offers a rare opportunity for members of the public to explore the courtrooms, cells, and public areas of the Grade II-listed structure.
Visitors will be able to speak with court staff and legal professionals, observe or even participate in mock trials, and gain insights into how cases are heard and decided. The event promises to be both educational and engaging, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the justice system in action.
“This is a great chance for the public to see what happens inside the court beyond what they may see in the media or on TV,” said a court spokesperson. “It’s about building trust and understanding in the justice process.”
Security will be in operation on the day, with all visitors expected to go through standard entry procedures. Please note that filming and photography are strictly prohibited inside the court building, in line with national court guidelines.
