Lewes Crown Court Throws Doors Open for Rare Public Tour
This September, Lewes Crown Court is cracking open its historic doors for a special Open Day. On Saturday, 13 September 2025, from 10am to 2:30pm, the public can get a rare peek inside one of East Sussex’s legal landmarks – for free.
Explore Courtrooms, Cells, and More
Located on Lewes High Street, this Grade II-listed building has stood at the heart of the town’s justice system for decades. Visitors of all ages can explore courtrooms, holding cells, and public areas rarely seen by outsiders. You’ll even have the chance to chat with court staff and legal pros, plus watch or join mock trials to see justice in action.
Get the Real Deal on the Justice System
“This is a great chance for the public to see what happens inside the court beyond what they may see in the media or on TV,” said a court spokesperson. “It’s about building trust and understanding in the justice process.”
Security checks will be in place, and all visitors must comply with standard entry rules. Note: photography and filming inside the court are strictly banned, following national court guidelines.
Perfect for Families and Future Legal Eagles
Whether you’re curious about how court cases work, dreaming of a career in law, or just keen on local history, the Lewes Crown Court Open Day promises an eye-opening experience for the whole family. Don’t miss this chance to step behind the scenes of justice!
