Stratford Halo Evacuation: 26 Households Forced Out Over Dangerous Defects

Dozens of residents have been uprooted from their Stratford homes after engineers uncovered serious structural defects at the high-profile Stratford Halo development.

Immediate Action at Sapphire Court

On August 20, structural engineers inspected Sapphire Court, one of the blocks in the sprawling Stratford Halo complex – home to a famous skyscraper tower once inhabited by YouTubers like KSI.

The inspection revealed defects in a section of Sapphire Court. As a result, building owner Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) ordered 26 households to evacuate immediately. Residents have since been relocated to temporary accommodation.

NHG Pledges Safety First, Support for Residents

NHG is now working closely with those affected to find long-term housing solutions, insisting resident safety is their absolute priority.

“We have supported a group of residents at Sapphire Court to move into temporary accommodation after structural engineers identified defects in one part of the building structure.

Our priority since finding out about this issue has been to protect the health and safety of our residents and to provide them with support during this unsettling time.

We have a dedicated team located on-site to help our residents and will continue to ensure that their needs are met. We understand the concern this news will cause and want to reassure that we are doing all we can to enable residents to return to their homes as soon as possible.”

Rest of Stratford Halo Development Remains Safe

NHG confirmed that the problem is isolated to the affected households only. The other 104 flats in Sapphire Court, along with the rest of the Stratford Halo development, remain safe to occupy.

The landmark east London development has come under fire in recent years over fire safety and maintenance concerns. NHG stresses this latest evacuation is a precautionary measure to guarantee resident safety.

Local councillors have demanded NHG keep residents updated and provide clear timelines for the repair work.
