Storm Amy Set to Batter Britain with 95mph Winds

Hold tight, Britain! Storm Amy, the season’s first savage storm, is racing towards the UK with ferocious winds reaching 95mph and relentless rain. The Met Office has slammed down severe warnings, warning of chaos on the roads and in the air.

Scotland Takes the Brunt of the Beast

The worst-hit areas will be Scotland’s north and west, where an amber warning for deadly winds is active from 5pm today until 9am Saturday over the Highlands and Western Isles. Officials warn of a “danger to life” due to flying debris, power cuts, smashed buildings, and blocked roads.

Meanwhile, yellow wind warnings cover Scotland, northern England, and western Wales from 3pm Friday to Sunday morning. Heavy rain warnings are also in place for the Lake District and North West England from 3pm to midnight.

Severe Travel Chaos Looms

The Met Office predicts gusts of up to 70mph in many areas, with Scotland facing brutal gales over 90mph. Roads will be treacherous, especially for high-sided vehicles at risk from strong crosswinds.

Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop urged travellers to “check conditions before setting out”. ScotRail has announced key route closures from 6pm tonight and will enforce speed restrictions from 7pm for passenger safety.
