Wiltshire Police Crack Down on Drink and Drug Drivers

Wiltshire Police launched a major winter campaign targeting drink and drug driving. Over the month, officers ramped up patrols and set up extra checkpoints to catch offenders red-handed.

86 Arrests Spark Warning from Police

The crackdown led to 45 arrests for suspected drink driving and 31 for drug driving. Four drivers were arrested for refusing to provide samples, while six others had to undergo hospital procedures following collisions.

Shockingly, 15 of these arrests happened on New Year’s Eve alone.

Inspector Mark Freeman Sounds the Alarm

“We are pleased that over the course of this winter campaign we have identified and arrested 86 people who were placing themselves and others at risk through the selfish actions of drink or drug driving,” said Inspector Mark Freeman, head of the Wiltshire Police Roads Policing Unit.

“Despite ongoing awareness and campaigns, it’s disappointing that some still see drink or drug driving as acceptable. Whether it’s illegal drugs or prescription meds, driving while intoxicated can cost lives.”

Inspector Freeman thanked all officers involved and stressed the fight isn’t over: education and enforcement will continue year-round.

How to Help Keep Wiltshire’s Roads Safe

If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, report it to Wiltshire Police by calling 101 or using their online reporting tool. Provide as much detail as possible—driver description, vehicle registration, times, and locations.

And if you believe a crime is happening right now with someone behind the wheel, don’t hesitate to call 999 immediately.
