Thunderstorm Warning Hits Southern UK Overnight
A yellow thunderstorm warning kicks in from midnight to 10 a.m. on Saturday. Warm air sweeping up from the continent is set to spark storms across southern England, ratcheting up the risk of heavy rain and lightning.
Heavy Rain and Lightning Strikes Expected
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy Page warned, “Many places within the warning area are unlikely to see a thunderstorm at all, but those that do could face heavy rain and frequent lightning.”
“Some spots may get 20-30mm of rain in just one hour, with a slim chance of 50mm over 2 to 3 hours, especially near the south coast,” he added.
Storm Threat May Rise Again on Sunday
The risk eases by Saturday morning but lookout for more thunderstorms and heavy downpours on Sunday as the warm air presses north. The Met Office could issue fresh warnings if conditions worsen.
