Heroic Rescue on West Beach as Coastguard Save Hip Pain Sufferer
Volunteers from Littlehampton Coastguard sprang into action Sunday afternoon after reports of a person stranded and wracked with severe hip and pelvic pain on West Beach. The casualty couldn’t move and needed urgent help.
Teamwork and Tough Terrain
Working alongside ambulance crews, the Coastguard assessed the best way to get the injured individual to safety. Options included using the Littlehampton RNLI Lifeboat to ferry the patient closer to a road. But the safest plan won out: the team carried the casualty on a stretcher over a steep, narrow path through sand dunes.
Meanwhile, the lifeboats stood by offshore, ready to jump in if needed and even delivered a heavy-duty stretcher to the scene.
Pain Relief and Safe Transfer
A Critical Care Paramedic from the South East Coast Ambulance Service was called in to administer stronger pain relief before the move. Once stable, the injured party was carefully transferred to a waiting ambulance for hospital treatment.
