Shocking Assault at Social Club

A 33-year-old man from New Milton has been locked up for six years after viciously attacking another man with a pint glass. Miguel Navarro Costa, of Andrew Lane, struck a man in his 40s during a shocking assault at a social club on Christchurch Road on the evening of 17 February 2023.

The victim suffered serious facial injuries that required hospital treatment and stitches.

Court Case Ends in Guilty Verdict

Costa was found guilty of wounding with intent following a three-day trial at Southampton Crown Court last November. He was sentenced on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 and must also pay a £228 surcharge.

Investigator Reacts to Verdict

“I am extremely pleased for the victim in this case that justice has now been served,” said Detective Constable Ellie Williams.

“Costa refused to accept responsibility for his actions that evening, leaving it to a jury to establish the full facts of his guilt.

This was a shocking act of violence, which could easily have left the victim with far greater physical injuries. Fortunately, this was not the case, but the victim must still live with the memory of what happened that evening.

While I understand this outcome will not rid him of those memories, I do truly hope that it allows him to move forward, safe in the knowledge that Costa is locked away and cannot repeat such violence against anyone else.”
