A Bristol man has been sentenced to prison for harrowing abuse that included strangulation, stalking, and hacking. Ali Abbas, 27, was jailed for 38 months at Salisbury Crown Court on Thursday (02/04). He’s also slapped with a 10-year restraining order to keep him away from his victim.
Strangulation and Coercive Control
Abbas wielded terrifying control over his victim during their relationship. He constantly monitored her phone, dictated who she could speak to, and tried to control what she wore. When the relationship ended, his obsession turned darker.
- Bombarded her with calls and messages
- Turned up at her workplace unannounced
- Hacked her social media accounts
- Created multiple fake profiles to contact her
Most shockingly, Abbas strangled the victim twice last year, leaving her fearing for her life.
Victim’s Courage Leads to Justice
The victim bravely reported Abbas to the police, who swung into action, charging him with coercive control, two counts of strangulation, and breaching a suspended sentence.
“I would like to thank the victim for the strength and courage they have shown throughout this process and that she should be proud of herself,” said PC Osborne from the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) team. “The actions of Abbas have had a lasting effect on the victim and I hope this result allows her the peace and closure she deserves, knowing he is behind bars.”
