A person has died after being struck by a train at Southwick railway station in West Sussex on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred as the 13.40 Southern service from Littlehampton to London Victoria was travelling through the station. The train was not scheduled to stop at Southwick and was passing through when the accident happened.
British Transport Police (BTP), West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) responded to the scene. A person was pronounced dead at the scene and the death is not being treated as suspicious. The circumstances will be passed to the Coroner.
The incident caused significant disruption to rail services, with the line closed between Worthing and Hove while emergency services and investigators dealt with the situation. The railway line reopened at around 4.45pm, with services gradually returning to normal.
