Massive Blaze Erupts at Hampshire Recycling Plant – Ten Fire Crews Battle Flames
Ten fire crews from across Hampshire have rushed to tackle a fierce blaze at the Biffa recycling centre. The alarm was raised just after 12:30pm when fire broke out in a unit packed with recycled waste.
Firefighters Scramble to Contain Spreading Flames
Firefighters from Hythe, Totton, Redbridge, and St Mary’s stations are hard at work stopping the fire from spreading. They’ve called in two aerial ladders from Southsea and Basingstoke plus a high volume pump (HVP) from Hardley, usually used for flood water removal, to back up the operation.
No Injuries, But Evacuations Underway
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, and all staff at the plant are safe and accounted for. Workers nearby have been asked to move their vehicles, and several neighbouring units are being evacuated as a precaution.
Residents Urged to Stay Safe Amid Thick Smoke
Hampshire Fire and Rescue are warning local residents to keep windows and doors closed due to the heavy smoke billowing from the fire.
Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for some time as they battle to contain the blaze.
