Heroin and Cocaine Dealer Sniffed Out by Police Dog and Jailed
Drug Bust on Spine Road
A drug dealer’s stash of heroin and cocaine was uncovered thanks to a sharp-nosed police dog. Michael Young, 38, was caught red-handed on April 23 when officers stopped a Renault Clio on Spine Road during a major crackdown on organised crime.
Sniffer Dog Kipper Cracks Case
Police had been tracking suspects believed to be running drugs through local roads. When the car Young was in was pulled over, K9 unit’s PD Kipper quickly sniffed out the illegal haul. Officers from Operation Dragoon found a stash of heroin and cocaine on Young.
Jailed for 33 Months
Young, who has no fixed address, was arrested along with the driver, 37, and a 30-year-old passenger. At Newcastle Crown Court on August 18, Young pled guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin, cocaine, and possession of diamorphine. He was sentenced to 33 months in prison, and his drugs were ordered forfeited and destroyed.
Police Vow to Keep Cracking Down
“This case is a great example of what can be achieved when the various teams within the Force work together,” said Detective Constable Laura Fairley.
“We know the lengths dealers like Young will go to keep their illicit businesses running, so we’re hitting hard with road policing, surveillance, intelligence gathering, and our brilliant sniffer dogs.”
“Operation Sentinel will continue rooting out criminals, and we urge anyone with information to come forward.”
The driver and passenger have been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
