Kitchen Blaze in Whitstable Sparks Dramatic Fire Rescue

Kent Fire and Rescue Service raced to a house in Seasalter, Whitstable, after a kitchen fire broke out. Two fire engines arrived at the Beaconsfields home, where crews in breathing apparatus quickly doused the flames with a hose reel jet.

Accidental Hob Switch Ignites House Fire

The blaze reportedly started when a hob was accidentally left on, heating a used chip pan. This sparked a takeaway pizza box left on top of the hob, igniting the fire. Thanks to a sounding smoke alarm, the residents escaped safely before firefighters arrived.

Smoke Inhalation and Animal Rescue Drama

Three people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being handed over to SECAmb. In a heroic rescue, firefighters saved a puppy and a parrot from the smoke-filled home. The dog received oxygen via a pet mask, while the parrot was taken to a vet for precautionary care.

Firefighters Warn: Kitchen Safety Is Key

Following the incident, Kent Firefighters urged the public to stay vigilant in the kitchen.

  • Always keep ovens, hobs, and grills clean.
  • Never leave items like takeaway boxes near heat sources.
  • Ensure smoke alarms are working to alert you early.
