Drama at Southampton Airport as Flybe plane makes emergency landing
Southampton Airport was put on full alert after a Flybe plane was forced into an emergency landing this morning due to technical problems. The incident unfolded just after 8am on Thursday 13th July 2017 when the pilot reported a cracked windscreen mid-flight.
Emergency Landing at Dawn
The Flybe aircraft, carrying 58 passengers, safely touched down around 8am following the distress call. The captain spotted the “technical issue” while airborne and took immediate action to bring the plane back.
Massive Emergency Response Rolls In
Airport emergency services sprang into action, with Hampshire Fire and Rescue called in to support the airport’s onsite fire engines. Five fire trucks arrived from Eastleigh, joined by crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, and Redbridge, all standing by on the runway.
Flybe Confirms Safe Landing
A Flybe spokeswoman said: “Flybe can confirm that the flight landed safely without incident at Southampton this morning with a suspected cracked windscreen. The captain took the necessary action and, as a usual precautionary measure, the airport put its emergency vehicles on standby.”
