Relatives Held in Pakistan as Woking Girl’s Death Shocks UK
In a grim twist to the tragic death of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, found dead in her Woking home on August 10, Pakistani authorities have arrested several close relatives of her father, Urfan Sharif, for questioning. This development intensifies the probe into how the young girl died.
Father and Stepmother Flee UK After Horrific Discovery
Urfan Sharif, 41, and his partner Beinash Batool, 29, fled to Pakistan shortly after Sara’s lifeless body was discovered. A post-mortem exposed “multiple and extensive injuries” inflicted over a “sustained and extended” period, pointing to prolonged abuse.
Police in Jehlum, near Lahore, confirmed the couple remains in hiding. As a result, 10 close family members — including Urfan’s father Mohammad Sharif, brothers, and cousins — are detained as part of the inquiry.
It’s common in Pakistan for police to hold relatives of suspects for questioning, though they are rarely formally imprisoned to avoid court complications.
Step-Mom Breaks Silence Amid Growing Pressure
Beinash Batool released her first public statement since Sara’s death. In a video shared by Sky News, she appeared unemotional, calling the tragedy “an incident” and pledging full cooperation with UK authorities.
Urfan and Beinash reportedly left the UK with their five children, aged between one and 13. UK police are actively trying to question them regarding Sara’s death.
Family Speaks Out on Tragic Loss
Sara’s mother, Olga Sharif, gave a heartbreaking interview on Polish TV’s Uwaga!, describing the shock and pain of seeing her daughter’s battered body. Her grief remains raw.
Sara’s grandfather, Muhammad Sharif, said his son fled the UK out of fear but insisted the family members in Pakistan will return to face the police.
Meanwhile, Surrey Police continue to appeal for information to understand more about Sara’s life and the tragic circumstances leading to her death.
