A dramatic police pursuit ended with a man diving into the River Lea in Tottenham tonight. Emergency crews rushed to Tottenham Hale Ferry Lane at around 9.15pm after the individual, who was being chased by officers on a moped, entered the water.

The Met Police confirmed the situation is still evolving, with uncertainty over how many people were involved or still unaccounted for. Firefighters from the Hart Team are working alongside paramedics and police officers to conduct an urgent search of the river and nearby area.

Ferry Lane remains closed in both directions while the operation continues. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:
“Police are currently dealing with an incident in the area of Ferry Lane, Tottenham. At approximately 9.15pm, a male was seen entering the water and has not been located since. An urgent search is underway.”
