Tragedy on Colchester High Street: Five-Year-Old Freddie Dies After Mirror Accident

The family of five-year-old Freddie Farrow have paid a heart-wrenching tribute after the little boy died following a freak accident in a Colchester shop. Freddie was struck by a mirror at Fenwick on Tuesday, July 27, and, despite desperate efforts by bystanders and hospital staff, he passed away on Monday, August 2.

Family Remembers Freddie’s Cheeky Charm

Freddie’s mum, Natasha Ingham, spoke of her heartbreak: “He will be with us every single day throughout the rest of our lives – until we see him again.” She described Freddie as a “lovely little boy” with a cheeky streak, who delighted in picking flowers for her each day and showering his family with love.

“He was so content and curious, always asking questions. Every mum says this, but he was such a clever little boy,” Natasha added. She also expressed deep gratitude for the flood of support from the Colchester community and beyond.

Dad’s Heartfelt Tribute: ‘Fredboy’ Brought Joy to All

Freddie’s dad, Andrew Farrow, reflected on the joy his son brought: “I am grateful for the time we had with Freddie. Every day he was loved and cherished and brought so much happiness to everyone who knew him.”

He described Freddie as an expert Lego builder, confident swimmer, and a boy with a contagious laugh who enjoyed crabbing and the park. “I will miss you, Fredboy, so, so much… and until we meet again, I love you.”

Andrew also thanked emergency responders and the community for their kindness, saying the family continues to find comfort in the outpouring of support.

School Community Mourns Bright Young Star

Freddie had just finished Year 1 at Gosbecks Primary School and was looking forward to a birthday trip to Lego Land before starting Year 2.

Polly Bradford, Head of School, said: “Freddie was a little star with a sensitive and caring nature. He was always polite, thoughtful, and kind to his friends and teachers.”

She added, “His unique character and lovely smile touched everyone. Our deepest sympathies are with Freddie’s family and friends — he will be in our hearts forever.”

This tragic loss has stunned the Colchester community, as they rally around Freddie’s family during their darkest hour.
