Fans of the beloved BBC drama series, Call the Midwife, are in for a longer wait than anticipated for the last two episodes of its 13th series. The unexpected delay stems from a scheduling change, with the BAFTA Film Awards taking precedence over the show in the upcoming week.
The official Call the Midwife Instagram page confirmed the alteration, stating, “Due to the live BAFTA Film Awards next Sunday, Call the Midwife series 13 will continue in TWO WEEKS TIME – February 25 at 8pm on @bbcone.
While the announcement clarified the reason behind the delay, it hasn’t quelled the disappointment among viewers. Many took to social media platforms to express their frustration, suggesting alternative solutions such as airing the show on BBC Two instead. One disgruntled fan lamented, “Why couldn’t it be put on BBC 2 instead? hate having to wait two weeks for the last episode.
The rescheduling also raised concerns about the future of certain characters, notably Matthew Aylward, portrayed by Olly Rix. Rix, who joined the cast in series 10 and plays the husband of senior nurse Trixie Franklin (Helen George), has been the subject of exit rumors. Addressing the speculation, Rix commented at the premiere of George’s The King And I musical, “It’s great being part of the Call the Midwife family. For now… You’ve got to watch to the end of this series. There are a few surprises ahead, a few bumps in the road. We’ll see how much longer I’m part of the family!”
The hinted departure of Rix’s character coincides with the on-screen portrayal of marital discord between Matthew and Trixie.
