London Fire Brigade has initiated an investigation following a fire incident in Abbey Wood, where two women managed to escape from a maisonette blaze.
The incident occurred on Lensbury Way, just before 1:50 pm on Saturday, March 20, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters were deployed to tackle the fire.
Upon arrival, half of the second floor of the split-level maisonette was engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the two female occupants of the building had already evacuated before the arrival of fire crews. There have been no reported injuries as a result of the incident.
The fire was successfully controlled by 3:10 pm, thanks to the combined efforts of fire crews from Plumstead, Greenwich, Deptford, Brixton, Lee Green, and Eltham fire stations.
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, the London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed that the Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received 11 calls reporting the blaze.
