Man Dies After Being Hit by Tanker Lorry on M20 near Ashford

A tragic incident on the M20 near Ashford has resulted in the death of a man in his 30s after he was struck by a tanker lorry.

The coastbound carriageway between Junctions 10a and 11 was closed for six hours following the incident, which occurred around 7.45am this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the site of the collision.

The incident involved two cars, a van, and the tanker lorry, occurring not far from the bridge by Evegate Business Park in Smeeth.

In response to the situation, traffic on the London-bound carriageway was briefly halted to facilitate the landing of an air ambulance as paramedics attended to the scene.

Drivers were diverted onto the A20 while National Highways worked to reopen the motorway, which was accomplished around 2pm.

National Highways has stated that there are currently “no excessive delays in the area,” expressing gratitude to drivers for their patience during the closure.

Authorities continue their inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. They urge anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has pertinent information is encouraged to contact the police at 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/29916/24.
