Construction is underway for a new roundabout on the A27 east of Lancing, aimed at providing access to the New Monks Farm development and improving connectivity to Brighton City Airport.
The project, which commenced in June 2022, is scheduled to conclude by the summer of 2024, with the aim of enhancing transportation infrastructure in the area.
In the latest updates provided by project authorities, upcoming weekend closures of the eastbound carriageway between Manor Roundabout and the Adur junction have been announced. These closures are necessary to facilitate the completion of drainage works, ducting installation across the carriageway, and the laying of the final road surface. The closures are scheduled for the following dates:
- 9pm Friday 12 April to 6am Monday 15 April
- 9pm Friday 26 April to 6am Monday 29 April
- 9pm Friday 10 May to 6am Monday 13 May
- 9pm Friday 7 June to 6am Monday 10 June
During these closures, a diversion will be in place via the A27, A24, and A283. However, local access will be maintained to the airport and residents with direct access off the eastbound A27 within the closure zone.
Additionally, regular overnight lane closures on both sides of the A27 are expected over the coming months as part of the construction activities.
The project aims to reroute all westbound traffic onto the new A27 westbound carriageway around the roundabout in the next phase of work. Improvement works will commence on both the westbound and eastbound carriageways, with completion anticipated by summer 2024. These works will be conducted in stages to ensure minimal disruption to traffic flow.
The construction of the new roundabout represents a significant step in bolstering transportation infrastructure in the area, fostering better connectivity and facilitating the development of New Monks Farm. The project underscores a commitment to enhancing road networks to meet the evolving needs of the community and promote economic growth.
