Man Found Dead in Portsmouth Flat Amid Heavy Police Presence
Police have confirmed that a man has died in a flat in Portsmouth’s Somerstown area, sparking a significant emergency response this afternoon.
Emergency Services Swarm Edgbaston House
Residents at Edgbaston House, Sedgely Close, reported a massive police presence around 1pm, with up to a dozen emergency vehicles initially spotted. A Patient Transport Ambulance was delayed, preventing poorly passengers from being dropped off as planned. Now, just two police units and an ambulance remain at the scene.
Witnesses claimed the police had gathered earlier on Fratton Road before moving to the flats.
Residents Shocked and Worried
“You’re safe. I cannot say any more at this time,” a police officer told concerned locals.
One unnamed resident revealed tense scenes inside the building. “Police escorted two people inside. I overheard one officer talking to the sister of one of them, who kept saying, ‘Oh my God!’ over and over, hands clasped over her face.”
Another chilling detail emerged: “No one has left with emergency services, but items were thrown from an eighth-floor window.”
Investigation Underway but No Suspicious Circumstances
A police spokeswoman later confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. The investigation continues as officers piece together what happened.
