Man Jailed for 28 Years Over 15 Years of Child Abuse

Abuser Brought to Justice After Decades

Anthony Adewale Sobogun, 61, from Croydon, has been sentenced to 28 years behind bars at Inner London Crown Court. The Met Police investigation uncovered 17 counts of historic sexual abuse against two children spanning the 1990s and early 2000s. Sobogun’s offences include multiple sexual assaults of a girl under 13, including rape. His victims were known to him, making the betrayal even more harrowing.

Victims’ Courage Leads to Conviction

One survivor revealed that Sobogun even accompanied her to an abortion clinic after she became pregnant with his child. Police confirmed the procedure through medical records and counselling notes detailing ongoing abuse. Sobogun was finally arrested in July 2025 and convicted after a thorough, victim-led investigation.

Detective Constable Charlotte Lockyer: “The bravery of the victims in coming forward is what brought Sobogun to justice. Their courage stopped a dangerous man from harming others. This case proves that no matter how long ago abuse happened, justice can still be served.”

Victims Speak Out

“What has come to light is deeply distressing but sadly not isolated. Abuse exists in many communities, often hidden by fear and stigma. It’s never too late to speak out. If you’ve suffered abuse, your voice matters—you deserve to be heard and protected. “People can seem trustworthy yet cause harm behind closed doors. That’s why it’s crucial to listen and take concerns seriously. We thank the Met Police, Detective Lockyer, prosecutor William Goss, and the CPS for handling this case with care and professionalism.”

Met Police Enhance Victim Support

The Metropolitan Police have invested £10 million in upgrading Video Recorded Interview (VRI) suites. These specially designed rooms create a safe, trauma-informed environment to help victims give evidence comfortably and confidently. The victim-centred approach in Sobogun’s case helped secure vital evidence and support survivors throughout the court process. This upgrade marks a significant step in improving investigations and victim experiences across London.
