UK Coastguard Scrambles Rescue Helicopter for Cruise Ship Med Evac
The UK Coastguard rescue helicopter 163 was rushed from its base in Lydd, Kent, this Monday evening (13th December 2021) to airlift a sick passenger from the cruise ship Mein Schiff Herz.
Emergency Call From Mid-Channel Cruise Ship
The ship’s captain made a distress call around 8pm UK time, requesting urgent medical evacuation. The vessel, carrying over 2,500 passengers and 1,000 crew, was sailing through the English Channel en route to Portugal on its 38-day Caribbean round-trip cruise from Bremerhaven.
Paramedics Winched Down for Critical Med Evac
The Coastguard deployed fully trained paramedics who were winched onto the 316-metre-long cruise liner to assess and assist the unwell passenger. The patient was swiftly airlifted to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for urgent treatment.
