The incident in Daneby Road Catford Concludes with Arrest and the suspect being bitten by Police Dog

The tense standoff at an address in Daneby Road SE6 has come to an end as officers forced entry into the property and made an arrest in the early hours of Thursday, 28 March.

Authorities were alerted to the situation around 2am, acting on suspicions of threats to cause criminal damage with intent to endanger life. A 26-year-old man was apprehended at the scene. However, the arrest did not come without incident, as the suspect sustained a foot injury from a police dog during the operation. As a precautionary measure, he was transported to the hospital for medical attention.

Fortunately, investigations confirmed that there were no additional individuals present inside the address. Nonetheless, police cordons will remain in place as further inquiries are carried out.

Residents who were temporarily displaced from neighbouring properties have been permitted to return home, marking a welcome relief after several days of uncertainty.

Detective Superintendent James Derham, overseeing the local policing team in south-east London, expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation and patience throughout the ordeal. “I do not underestimate the impact this has had on their day-to-day lives, especially those who have been displaced,” Derham remarked. Our priority has been to bring the matter to a safe conclusion for everyone involved as quickly as possible.

Background:

The unfolding of events traces back to Monday, 25 March, when officers and emergency services responded to concerns regarding the welfare of a man within a property on Daneby Road, SE6. Despite ongoing attempts to establish communication with the individual, the situation remained unresolved, prompting the implementation of cordons and road closures to manage the evolving circumstances.

Authorities have collaborated closely with various partners, including the local authority, to mitigate disruptions for residents and commuters passing through the affected areas of Bellingham and Catford.

As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all involved parties while striving to return normalcy to the community.
