The United States and Israel have carried out a series of coordinated airstrikes on Iran, targeting nuclear facilities, missile headquarters, and drone operations in a dramatic escalation of regional conflict.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that 30 fighter jets struck dozens of Iranian military targets across Isfahan, Bushehr, Ahvaz, and Yazd, while US precision strikes focused on three Iranian nuclear facilities overnight.

Pentagon Confirms US Targeted Nuclear Infrastructure

According to Pentagon sources, American forces used cruise missiles and bunker-busting munitions to hit three undisclosed nuclear sites in Iran late last night. These strikes followed recent intelligence suggesting Tehran had intensified uranium enrichment efforts. The US Department of Defense has not confirmed whether the attacks caused radioactive fallout or damaged centrifuge production lines.

“Diplomacy is the only path to peace and security for all. We urge Iran to return to dialogue and renounce nuclear weapons.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the US-Israeli operations as a “flagrant violation of Iranian sovereignty” and vowed to respond at “a time and place of our choosing.”

President Pezeshkian also urged international allies and the United Nations to take immediate action. The UN Security Council is scheduled to convene in an emergency session tomorrow.

Strategic Importance of Yazd

Located in central Iran, Yazd is a major military-industrial center housing some of Iran’s deepest underground missile bunkers. Experts say the region plays a pivotal role in Iran’s ability to launch intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) capable of reaching Israeli and Gulf targets.

By targeting Yazd, Israel appears to be dismantling the very core of Iran’s long-range strike capability.

What Comes Next? Risk of Retaliation High

The unprecedented strikes by Washington and Tel Aviv now risk full-scale retaliation by Iran or its proxies, including Hezbollah in Lebanon, Shiite militias in Iraq, and Houthi rebels in Yemen.

In preparation, Israel has placed its Iron Dome and Arrow missile defense systems on high alert. Meanwhile, the US has surged naval reinforcements to the Persian Gulf, including an aircraft carrier battle group.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres issued a late-night statement urging all sides to avoid a regional war and to pursue immediate ceasefire talks.
