Knife-Wielding Maniac Smashes Cars and Charges at Police in Leicester

In the early hours of 22 September 2023, chaos erupted on Beaumont Leys Lane, Leicester. A man armed with a large knife was reported smashing parked cars. The nightmare began when a victim’s vehicle was trashed, forcing them to trail the suspect on foot until officers arrived.

Armed Suspect Charges Police, Shouting “I am going to kill you”

PC Joshua Shardlow and PC Mo Ahmed quickly responded to the scene. The caller directed them to a dark alley where the suspect appeared, raising a huge knife and screaming threats. Without hesitation, the officers deployed their Tasers. PC Shardlow’s Taser worked, but PC Ahmed’s failed.

The suspect fell but sprang up instantly, swinging the knife narrowly missing the officers. A brutal fight ensued in the alley.

Bleeding But Unbowed: Officers Fight Back Heroically

  • Suspect slashed PC Ahmed’s face, leaving a deep wound and smashed nose.
  • PC Shardlow struck with his baton to keep the attacker at bay.
  • Despite using captor spray, the suspect kept fighting and even followed officers onto the main street.
  • PC Shardlow was knocked to the ground but kicked out and kept fighting.
  • Finally, PC Ahmed’s second application of the spray forced the villain to flee.

The officers pursued relentlessly. PC Shardlow tackled and wrestled the knife-wielding suspect to the floor before handcuffing him successfully.

Police Federation Praises Officers’ Bravery and Tenacity

“PC Mo Ahmed and Joshua Shardlow bravely confronted a dangerous man wielding a knife down a dark alley. When he charged at them, they tried to use their Taser, but it had no effect,” said Leicestershire Police Federation Acting Chair Andy Spence. “The offender slashed Mo across the face with the knife and knocked Joshua to the floor. Bravely both officers got up, chased after the suspect down several roads and restrained him. The footage is harrowing and shows how they courageously faced this man on their own. “The bravery they showed that night is outstanding. The officers showed absolute professionalism and dedication.”
