Hammer Horror: Erik Feld Found Guilty of Brutal Murder
DNA Under Victim’s Fingernails Seals the Case
Erik Feld, 38, was caught after his DNA was discovered beneath the fingernails of 50-year-old murder victim Ranjith ‘Roy’ Kankanamalage. Detectives probing the savage killing linked Feld to the scene, uncovering his disturbing obsession with hammer attacks. Officers found he had researched and watched violent hammer assault videos, raising chilling red flags.
Feld’s Violent Past and Arrests
The Old Bailey convicted Feld after a tense trial ending on 15 August. Witnesses last saw him near the crime scene around 3:55am, heading towards the park. He lives not far from there on Tredegar Road.
Only days before the murder, on 18 August, Feld was arrested for waving a hammer at a security guard after a heated shop argument. He pled guilty and awaited sentencing when police connected him to Ranjith’s murder. His recent violent outburst spurred police to dig deeper into his troubling background.
Community Reacts to Shocking Violence
Jack Gilbert, representing the LGBT Advisory Group (LGBTAG), a voluntary police advisory group, spoke out:
“The violence Ranjith was subjected to was horrific and we welcome the verdict. Our condolences extend to his grown-up children, his former husband, and his wider family.”
The brutal case has rocked the local Tower Hamlets community, highlighting the deadly consequences of unchecked aggression.
