Scissors Attack in Ashford Town Centre Lands Man Behind Bars
A man has been locked up after stabbing a victim with a pair of scissors in Ashford town centre.
Violent Assault Sparks Police Chase
Sari Alkhafaji, 28, attacked the man in Middle Row on the afternoon of Sunday 12 January 2020. The victim suffered two puncture wounds to his back and arm after an argument broke out in a barber’s shop. The victim had tried to intervene, sparking the violent assault.
Alkhafaji initially walked off but then returned to launch the scissors attack. Police quickly got his description and arrested him near Crownfield Road about 30 minutes later.
Sentenced for Unlawful Wounding and Weapon Possession
Alkhafaji admitted unlawful wounding and possession of a bladed article. On Friday 3 July 2020, Canterbury Crown Court sentenced him to one year and four months behind bars.
The victim was rushed to hospital but avoided life-changing injuries and has since been discharged. The barber shop window also suffered damage during the fracas.
Police Warn Against Knife Crime
Detective Constable Laura Corbin said: “This happened in a busy street and would have been terrifying for anyone who saw it. The victim was lucky not to suffer worse injury after the assailant swung scissors with total disregard. Kent Police have zero tolerance for knife crime and will relentlessly pursue anyone carrying or using weapons.”
